All summer in a day responses

ALL SUMMER IN A DAY RESPONSE QUESTIONS
-EXPLAIN THE CRIME MARGOT COMMITTED THAT LED TO THE OTHER STUDENTS HATING HER
For Margot, just adjusting to the new life on Venus was hard enough for her, for one reason, because she missed the sun. The sun plays a key role in the ecosystem of humans and animals, and I think if the sun were to disappear from my perspective for 5 years as with Margot, I would’ve been frustrated and angry. As children born on Venus, the other students hate Margot because she has something that they don’t have.
-DISCUSS WHY SEEING AND FEELING THE SUN MEANT MORE TO MARGOT THAN TO OTHER STUDENTS
Seeing and feeling the sun meant more for Margot because she had actually felt both for 4 years of her life. Because the Venus children do not know what the sun is like, they cannot correctly anticipate what it is like from their own experience, only from other people’s descriptions of it and their opinions of it.
-HOW ARE THESE TWO EVENTS CONNECTED
The events in the poem and the story are connected because they both involve someone being left out. With the poem the person holds his head high and tries to ignore the bullies comments and behaviors, which is what Margot is doing by trying to stay calm and not talking to the other people. Also, the person in the poem just takes the bullying without caring about it, and the same applies to Margot.  Oddly, the reading of the story was 2 days before pink shirt day, which is dedicated to stop bullying, which brings us to the topic of how WE at this time stop bullying. Both cases are in entirely different time periods, which is also interesting, because it shows that bullying has happened before and will happen in the future, and no matter how hard we try, it won’t just stop at one point and never happen again.
-WHEN MARGOT MOVED TO VENUS SHE WAS FORCED TO ADJUST TO LIFE IN A DIFFERENT KIND OF COMMUNITY AND ENVIRONMENT. WHAT WERE SOME OF THE DIFFICULTIES SHE HAD FITTING INTO A COMMUNITY WHERE THE EXPECTATIONS AND WAY OF LIVING WAS DIFFERENT FROM WHAT SHE WAS USED TO. HOW DID MARGOT ADJUST TO THESE CHANGES?
Because by going to Venus, and losing an important part of her normal life (the sun) she is forced to accept the fact that she won’t see the sun again in 5 years and that she will be bullied because she has experienced something other kids have not had and they are jealous of that. Also Margot literally abandoned all hope of ever seeing the sun again because of her sad predicament, which i think is a strange way to deal with a tough situation. I have heard people say that no matter what you do bad or no matter what happens to you, if you stay optimistic, things will always turn out better, and i think this is a good situation to apply it to.
-HOW DID HER CLASSMATES REACT TO MARGOT?
When they found out that Margot used to have something that they didn’t ever get a chance to experience, the jealousy they had for her destroyed any respect they had for her and made them angry enough to bully her and make her feel lowly by saying that they didn’t believe her when she claimed that the sun was “like a flower that only blooms for 1 hour” and making other claims about the sun and its properties.
-WHAT DO YOU THINK IS THE KEY MESSAGE RAY BRADBURY WANTS TO COMMUNICATE?
I think the key message Ray Bradbury wants to share is the affects of bullying and also how unappreciative people are these days of basic necessities and things that exist in our lives, like the sun.
-EXPLAIN WHAT HE WANTS YOU TO LEARN AND THINK ABOUT AFTER READING THIS STORY. HOW DID BRADBURY CREATE EVENTS AND CHARACTERS TO ACCOMPLISH THIS? INCLUDE IN YOUR ANSWER CONNECTIONS TO PERSONAL EXPERIENCE OR OTHER STORIES YOU HAVE READ THAT ARE SIMILAR IN THEME
I think Bradbury created more characters so that they would have more of an impact, and he created Margot in that way because it fits her character more, as the nervous and shy person who doesn’t talk to anyone. He created the bully William to act more like the leader and the creator of so much thoughts who creates such strong opinions of Margot. The rest of the students act more like tools that Bradbury uses to show support to the main bully, William. I think the Giver is similar to this novel because in both stories the one person is neglected and separate from other people, except in the Giver, the people are not aware that there could be better things in life. With the short story, the children are aware that they could, but do not try to achieve it. Margot stayed on earth longer and has been influenced more by the things there and tries to change things her way, but does not succeed because she is nervous and shy without the confidence that the earth’s surroundings give her.

actually i would've preferred if it were a bit longer, but ah well.
