Dear Sirs and Madam
Hello, my name is Bruce Huang and I am a student currently in the school Roy H. Crosby in grade 6. This letter was an assignment by my teacher to show my concerns and my opinions towards the current predicament in Attawapiskat. As you are well aware, Attawapiskat is a first nations group situated in northern Canada that is in dire conditions. After several years of futile protests the Canadian government still refuses to take action towards the situation. The following few paragraphs will express my opinion of what should be done and what can be done.
First of all, I feel this situation is not unlike racism. In our own country, where aid can be delivered the fastest, help is needed, and the government has done nothing but ignore the situation. How can our country provide so much to other countries in aid, but do nothing for our own. How could that possibly be ethic? I think this is not much unlike racism because we are ignoring a different race in our own country even though we are helping other countries that are actually harder to help than our own.
The dilemma in Attawapiskat has been present for so long, several years now, that I am very surprised you did not act earlier. If Toronto’s school had an extremely dangerous diesel oil spill, would the government just ignore it? Even though Toronto might be a much larger city than Attawapiskat, but that shouldn’t be an excuse for the government to not do anything at all. The crisis in Attawapiskat would even have been easier to clean up before instead of waiting until now. Then there’s also the housing crisis. Some basic research I did told me that some of the houses are almost completely flooded with sewage in the basements. Before, it would have been easier to tidy, but now, the only solution to this crisis is to move the entire town somewhere else.
Overall, the situation in Attawapiskat is still not improving, and I believe that if the government does not act in the next few months, there will be no more chance to save the small community of Attawapiskat. As the conditions decrease, I hope the government will consider helping the community instead of ignorance, and I hope you have a good day.
Sincerely,
(place yo signature here man yoh)
